There were several
structural factors involved with this renovation. One was having to remove
6 wood columns that supported the second floor bedrooms. The second was
creating a dominating focal point on the north wall. We did this with
a raised hearth fireplace. The third was adding a matching bay window
on the east for symmetry and natural lighting.
The creation exceeded
our vision.
This is the finished
product. We chose the green shutters based on what we've seen on many
country homes. It's a great look. We've also seen it done successfully
with beige, grey and burgundy shutters.
The fieldstone fireplace
is the focal point for the country kitchen gathering room. The fireplace
is a massive full wall, raised hearth with an enlarged firebox face. The
mantel is hand-crafted from original supporting wood columns. It is the
home's heart and soul.
